looking/finding

oh, the things you find when you are looking for something else... these photos are from one of my previous occupations as a clothing designer. i had a design partner and we usually each made our own separate ensembles specifically for fashion shows (events which were rather underground affairs, i.e. all of our friends attended and we never made any money). this is one of the rare outfits we collaborated on. all of our fabrics, trimmings and accessories (we even made shoes, but not the pair pictured here) were recycled from thrift store finds.

every piece was one of a kind. we used to bring our finished items to small boutiques, hoping to impress (or meet) the buyers. one owner told us he couldn't sell our jewelry in his shop because we were "too modern". we went home that day and made new business cards proudly enblazoned with the slogan "we're too modern".

all this was before digital cameras and there are very few surviving images of our work. finding these was a like taking a trip in a time machine.

now, what was i looking for...?
