documenterrific

Img_5238

i haven't quite adjusted to this new reality yet. it's difficult to fall asleep at the usual time, in the usual way. and so i stay up late and later... and when i do i sometimes stumble upon one of my most favorite things in the world. documentary films. they may be my most favorite kind of film to watch these days. and as luck would have it (luck is so good to me sometimes), we get the sundance channel (and ifc and hbo). this allows me to be a glutton of documentary and independent films and some interesting series, too. and luckily, i have lots of felted sweater scraps to embroider into rings... which i can work on while watching sundance! it's a win-win situation, except for the part where i am finding it hard to fall asleep at my usual time. but that will pass. and the documentaries will just keep on coming. here are some of my faves;

flying: confessions of a free woman {mesmerizingly good if you love the idea of sitting in on really good girlfriend conversations all over the globe}

escape from suburbia {not what you think - a disturbing wake up call about the meaning of peak oil and our future}

wide awake {watching a man suffering thru life without sleep is painful. but i confess, when he shows his organized collections in his studio i get a little giddy}

our daily bread {how did they make the scary world of mass produced food into a moving experience... without any words?}

the future of food {the scary world of mass produced and genetically modified food... with lots of words}

does your soul have a cold? {a deeply personal look at depression and medication in modern japan}

who killed the electric car? {enraging. but you should still watch it}

do you love documentary films? tell me your favorites...

I'm always so happy to find a list of documentary reccomendations, as they are my drug-of-choice, recently haven't had much time to watch so I'm abosorbing podcasts like radiolab and this american life while i work out or walk, but here are a few i can dredge up from the not too distant past:
The Natural History of the Chicken (seriously!)
not sure of the title but; the bio on Tammy Faye Baker
Grey Gardens
How to Draw a Bunny
The Devil's Playground
The Corporation
wish I could remember the title of the film about the one-legged tap dancer from the depression era....good one.
oh, so many that i just can't remember....sigh.
Thanks for the recommendations, will start looking for them!
Glad to see you liked the little micro-atlas moment.

ya gotta put supersize me in the mix... and e-dreams. and roger and me. and crumb?

i like documentary films too. :)

Cool! I've seen some of these and the others look interesting.
