another tea towel pillow cover

IMG_6860

one of my most favorite lotta jansdotter prints ever.  her color sense kills me.  and the linen is so soft and crinkly.  everything about it is just right.  (my dream job... if only i lived in brooklyn)

i laid it right-sides together with a small remnant of a japanese print we call "time of healing" (because it says that on the fabric, among other things like "handmade space" and "time of sweets" {thanks pr!}), folding about a third of the tea towel in against itself.  straight stitch together around three edges leaving the folded end open.

when you flip it right sides out it looks like this.  i managed to get the tea towel hanging loop to end up on the flap end.  when the pillow is set inside and the flap folded over...

sew a button in place to fit thru the loop!

i'll be curled up here this morning with a pot of coffee and the complete works of jane austen.  it's pretty lame that i have only seen the movies and never read the novels so i am reading them all this summer. the penguin edition is mighty hefty.  i should have some nicely toned arms come autumn just from holding it up while reading :)

what are you reading this summer?

What a great idea for your cushion cover, and looks great. And talk about dream job - possibly worth travelling half way across the world for! Oh, and too busy patchworking with Lotta fabric to be reading this winter (it's sooo cold this winter in Melbourne) but if I were, I'd be reading Penguin By Design: A Cover Story 1935-2005. Go non-fiction!

sadly, i have only seen the movies too. :) i've really tried to read the books and just can't quite do it. if it takes a movie to help me appreciate and love the writing, so be it. i've never pretended to be deep... well, maybe once or twice in college...

Like Gina, I am re-reading. I am also in a non-fiction mood at the momement so it will be Bird By Bird (Anne Lamot) and Affluenza. Bird By Bird is technically a how-to-write sort of book but is so much more.

It is the "summer of the re-read" for me. I've decided to go back and re-read five of my faves, five I am always recommending. I hope they are as great as when I first read them (or even better?). I am starting with My Antonia, then moving on to The Samurai's Garden, Sister of My Heart, Crossing to Safety, and Animal Dreams -- not sure of the best order for a good flow. I am not rereading Pride & Prejudice, my all-time favorite, because I have already reread it...um, about five times. Save it for last, no matter what the order is in your Penguin edition!
