small notebooks.  beloved.  some in use, some used up, some fresh and waiting to be filled.  one can never have too many.

tomatoes.  

real tomatoes from the farmer's market.  tomatoes with flavor.  tomatoes that taste like... tomatoes!  i have waited all year for this.  i am so happy.

eyeglasses.  some with prescriptions, some for reading, some for the sun.  some found, some gifts, some from the outlet store, some antiques.  some i wear everyday, some for special occasions, some i plan to change to prescription lenses, some to save because they're just too good to purge.

i have the day off... i keep thinking it's saturday.

hair doodles.

since my hair was recently bobbed up short and wind-proof for summer, i won't be needing most of these for months.  the girl in me can't let go of them completely.  the grown up in me wonders if it's really  wise at my age to keep them.

more (i know, can you believe it?) art supplies.  do they have to make them so beautiful and irresistible? must they be so bright and alluring?  and so practical at the same time?  dragging them all out of their neat and tidy space in the drawers makes me want to drop whatever i should be doing and play.  drip a little ink onto paper, blend with colored pencils, erase and paint and scribble.  feel that chalk dust on my fingers.  i have made a mess just to photograph them... and the work room is too small for what i've left all over the floor.  i'll put them all away for now.  but i will come back to you, my preciouses.  oh yes.  i will be back.

art supplies.  how i adore them.  they hold the promise of endless possibilities, many many projects to come.  and there are so many more in the art drawers.  perhaps we will linger and rummage thru them in the wednesdays ahead.  now i feel the urge to color something...

table linens.  my favorite is the christmas runner with the dancing swedish tomtes in red suits on the left. which is your favorite?

fortune cookie fortunes.  oh yes, i collect them.  and keep them in a little red notebook.  it's true.

my favorite story about fortune cookies happened when i went out for thai food with my son's girlfriend one evening.  when the cookies came at the end of the meal she sighed and said, "i always get the same fortune every time i open one of these."  

"really?"  i was surprised because i don't think i've ever gotten the same one even twice.  "which one?"  i asked...  

"you love chinese food", she told me.

i laughed out loud.  "no way!  i have never even seen that one..."  and i'd been a collector for a while at the time.  we each took a cookie from the plastic tray and opened them.

"argh!"  she exclaimed and tossed me her fortune in disgust.

it read: you love chinese food.

i am NOT making this up.
